We collect you from your hotel between 6:00 and 6:45 AM, depending on location. Prefer to meet us there? Mirissa Harbor works too.
Whale Watching Cruise (2.5–4 hours)
Head out from Mirissa Harbor at 7:00 AM aboard a comfortable boat, guided by an experienced local crew who follow ethical wildlife-watching practices. Watch for blue whales, dolphins, turtles, and flying fish, with tea, coffee, and light snacks served along the way. Sightings depend on the day, we won’t promise what the ocean won’t guarantee.

FAQ About Sri Lanka
Q. Do I need a visa to travel to Sri Lanka from the UK?
Yes. British passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before you fly. It’s Sri Lanka’s version of a visa. It’s free and valid for 30 days. Apply online through the official ETA portal before you travel. Don’t leave it to the airport. Staying longer? You can extend it once you’re there through Sri Lanka’s Immigration portal.
If you’re only transiting through Sri Lanka by air with a connection inside 24 hours, you won’t need an ETA at all. Just confirm the timing with your airline.
Overstay your 30 days and Sri Lanka takes it seriously. Fines, detention, deportation, even a future travel ban are all possible. We’d rather you never find out the hard way, so build a buffer into your dates.
Q. How long must my passport be valid?
Six months minimum from the day you land. No exceptions. A passport that expires sooner, or one reported lost or stolen, means you’re turned away at the border. Check it well before you book flights, and if it’s close, renew now rather than later. Coming home, every British citizen in your group needs a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement. Worth a quick check if anyone holds dual citizenship.
Q.Are vaccinations required for travel to Sri Lanka?
One is mandatory. A yellow fever certificate, but only if you’re arriving from a country with yellow fever transmission risk. Otherwise there’s no blanket requirement. We’d still recommend a visit to your GP or a travel clinic about 8 weeks before you go. Tetanus, Typhoid, Hepatitis A and B, Japanese Encephalitis, and Rabies commonly come up depending on where you’re headed and what you’ve got planned.
Q. What can I bring into Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka has strict customs rules on what comes in and what goes out. You’re required to declare anything that might be prohibited or subject to tax or duty. Don’t assume home rules apply here. If you’re not sure about an item, check before you pack it, especially electronics or anything of real value.

Q. Is the water safe to drink?
Not from the tap. Stick to bottled or filtered water for the whole family and skip ice unless you know where it came from. It’s an easy habit to build in and saves you a rough start to the holiday
Q. What is the local currency, and can I use cards?
The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is what you’ll need day to day. Cards work fine in hotels and larger shops, but keep cash on hand for small cafés, local markets, and tips. It’s still very much a cash culture outside the bigger venues.
Q. How do we get around as a family?
A private driver with an air-conditioned van is the easiest, safest way to move a family around the South Coast and beyond. Affordable, flexible, and one less thing for you to plan yourselves.
Q.When is the best time for a Sri Lanka family holiday?
Sri Lanka’s climate shifts by region, so there’s rarely a bad time to visit. It’s about picking the right coast for the season. The southwest, where our verified properties sit, is at its driest and warmest from December through April, which lines up neatly with UK school holidays.
Q. Is Sri Lanka good for a family holiday?
It’s one of the best. Good hotels, real wildlife encounters, excellent beaches, and a manageable size that means you’re never losing a whole day to travel between experiences. Whether your kids are young enough for elephant encounters or old enough to want independence exploring Galle Fort on their own, Sri Lanka’s South Coast has a version of the trip for every age in your family, all within a short drive of each other.
Q. What wildlife can we see?
Leopards, elephants, monkeys, deer, and an incredible range of birds, marine life, and reptiles. The South Coast puts you close to some of Asia’s finest national parks, plus whale and dolphin watching straight off the coast at Mirissa.
Q. What should we pack to wear?
Light, breathable clothing for the heat, with something warmer if you’re heading up into the hill country. Comfortable shoes for sightseeing, and muted colours if you’re visiting a national park. It keeps you a little more part of the landscape and a little less disruptive to it.
Q. Is Sri Lanka safe for families?
Yes. There’s no UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advice against travel to Sri Lanka. As always, it’s worth checking the FCDO’s Sri Lanka page before you go, just to stay current.
